Learning music with the NSW music syllabus gives students from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn and develop musical abilities and skills through a range of styles and approaches.
Objectives
“All students should have the opportunity to develop their musical abilities and Potential”
The rationale of the 7-10 syllabus for students is to provide opportunities to build on knowledge and understandings gained within stage 3 schooling as well as being adaptable to meet the needs of those whose interests range broadly within the scope of music.
This gives teacher an aim of providing and education in music that allows students to have a continued role within music throughout their lives.
Learning by Doing.
Learning Experiences of Music
Balance of activities is a crucial element when a teacher creates lessons, and the tools a music teacher uses to create meaningful learning experiences are;
Performing.
Participation in any form of practical musical making weather solo or in an ensemble performance.
Composing.
The development of skills in thoughtful and spontaneous musical composition within individual and group activities.
Listening.
The development of aural abilities in context of being able to hear, understand and respond to a wide range of music by the discrimination of sounds and critical judgement.
